TFI Family Services is a leader in several different Foster Care
Programs. Don't worry if all the different types of care options seem
overwhelming at first. If you would like more information about any of the
specific types of care, please contact our Recruitment Department toll-free at (800) 279-9914, or by email at
recruitment@the-farm.org. They will be happy to discuss the many options available to you,
and to help you find the type of foster care that is best for your family.
Children in Need of Care
Considered to be "traditional" foster care, this ranges from
basic to special needs children. The length of placement varies
significantly with individual case; it may be anywhere from a few weeks to
a year or more. The age of the placed child can be anywhere from birth to 18
years old. Typically, however, youth will be of pre-adolescent to young adult age. The number of placements allowed per home depends upon licensure.
Adoption Foster Care
Adoption Foster Care provides foster homes for children who
have had one or both parental rights terminated and are waiting for an adoptive
placement.
Supported Family Living Care
Long-term foster care, under the Home Community Based
Services/Mental Retardation (HCBS/MR) waiver, provides for children with special
needs. TFI Family Services has affiliations with Community Developmental
Disability Organization (CDDO) throughout the state to provide this service.
Non-Violent Juvenile Offender Care
Also known as the "Phoenix Program", this program provides
foster care for children who have special needs based on their Juvenile Offender
status. Children are deemed Juvenile Offenders by the courts; those who
have not yet received a court ruling are classified as pending. In
addition to MAPP training, other specialized Juvenile Offender training may be
necessary prior to licensing. Care Providers are reimbursed for daily
living expenses by TFI Family Services, usually at Therapeutic or Diversion rates. This is a wonderful opportunity to take
a troubled youth and help mold him or her into an upstanding member of society,
to make an honest difference in a child's life.
Respite Care
This service is for children already in care. It is
planned substitute care with another foster family for Care Providers who just
need some time away. Generally very short term placement, it is designed
as a non-disruptive option for Care Providers who simply need a quiet, restful
weekend.
Emergency Care
In-home care for children who are in immediate need of
placement. This usually occurs when a child needs to be quickly removed
from his or her home following instances of abuse or neglect. The length
of placement varies significantly with individual cases; it may be from one to
thirty days or until other arrangements for care can be made. Typically,
this is a very short-term placement. The age of the placed child ranges anywhere
from birth to 18 years old.
Diversion Care
Care for a child needing a highly structured setting; to
avoid a residential placement; or to transition back home. The length of
placement varies significantly with individual cases; it may be anywhere from a
few weeks to several months.
Therapeutic Care
In-home care for children with severe emotional or behavioral
concerns requiring close supervision. Placements are monitored by a Social
Worker/Case Manager. Although caring for these troubled youths can
sometimes be difficult, they are desperately in need of a supportive, loving
home. The length of placement varies significantly with individual cases;
it may be anywhere from a few weeks to several months.
