Special Needs and Below Cost Care Many of the families we serve are not able to afford some of the most basic needs—clothing for school, that special prom dress, athletic shoes, or music and dance lessons—that enrich a child’s life experience and improve their chance for success later on. Behavioral Health Services This fund would help in the cost of individual group and family therapy for the purpose of counseling sessions and medication management beyond the minimum sessions. Education Scholarship Program This fund would be utilized as an incentive or assistance to many of the youth that age out of the foster care system to encourage them to seek higher education. It would also allow tuition assistance for our staff to help them attain a Master’s Degree or other training to better prepare them to serve children and their families. Increased support is needed for older youth to strengthen independent living skills. Too many youth move out of the care system before they learn how to write a resume, create a monthly budget, or use public transportation. Our program uses supported apartment living, and has been proven to be successful in reducing homelessness among youth. Parent Training Training is the key to developing and maintaining healthy foster families. Before families are licensed, they are provided with training on cultural differences and behavioral expectations. Open communications between providers and TFI Family Services is a priority, and training does not stop once a child is placed. This program also provides occasional respite care for parents who just need some time away. Information Management Twenty-four offices are networked to track children in our programs and provide up-to-date records on location, Foster/Resource parents, quality assurance, licensing, caseloads, and levels of care. Ongoing upgrades are necessary to stay current with the flow of information and decision-making. How Can I Help?
